Price chart: brass scrap grades and COMEX Copper exchange data

The chart shows average yard buyout rates and COMEX Copper exchange data for your selected brass scrap grade. When the exchange moves up and local yard prices lag, they typically follow within a few trading days — a signal to hold if you can. When both lines drop, sell now before yards update their offers downward. Switch grades using the selector above the chart.

Compare brass scrap grades and their value

Brass prices track COMEX Copper since brass is 55–70% copper. The higher the copper content in the alloy, the closer the payout to the copper quote. Identifying your material correctly before selling is the single most effective step to maximize your payout.

📊 What determines the value of brass scrap:

  • Yellow brass solids: Clean plumbing valves, fittings, and bushings with no steel — the benchmark top grade. Priced closest to copper on the COMEX scale.
  • Red brass / semi-red brass: Higher copper content (80–85%) than yellow brass; priced above yellow brass solids at most yards.
  • Brass turnings: Must be dry and free of cutting oil. Wet or coolant-soaked turnings receive a significant per-pound deduction.
  • Irony brass: Brass with steel inserts, bolts, or iron contamination falls into this discounted grade. Separate iron before selling.
💡 Tip: Remove iron fittings and steel inserts from brass before weighing in — any iron in the lot drags the whole load to 'irony brass' pricing.
