📊 What determines the value of brass scrap:

  • Yellow brass solids: Clean plumbing valves, fittings, and bushings with no steel — the benchmark top grade. Priced closest to copper on the COMEX scale.
  • Red brass / semi-red brass: Higher copper content (80–85%) than yellow brass; priced above yellow brass solids at most yards.
  • Brass turnings: Must be dry and free of cutting oil. Wet or coolant-soaked turnings receive a significant per-pound deduction.
  • Irony brass: Brass with steel inserts, bolts, or iron contamination falls into this discounted grade. Separate iron before selling.
💡 Tip: Remove iron fittings and steel inserts from brass before weighing in — any iron in the lot drags the whole load to 'irony brass' pricing.
